Opening today is Hibernia, the newest café from Stephen Lowery and Zoi Kokoti. Adding to their collection including The Deli at Thebarton and Eire Café at Clapham.

Located at 609 Magill Road, Magill, Hibernia will be offering breakfast and lunch in the 54 seat eatery.

The Magill Institute building, abandoned for seven years, has undergone a $1.5million transformation.

The space is beautiful – light and bright with Scandinavian décor and high ceilings. And when the warmer weather arrives the large windows looking out onto Magill Road can open.

Head Chef Lachlan Mackinnon, formerly from Windy Point, will be working wonders with the menu along with Executive Chef James Russell, who overseas all the eateries.

Zoi says “just because we’re a café we don’t want to dumb in down” and that was evident in the deluxe canapés on offer at the launch.

Sweetcorn soup with Yarra Valle salmon caviar.

Ham hock croquette, vintage cheddar and tomato relish.

Smoked mackerel, dill yoghurt, baby cos, apple and braised fennel.

Ocean trout terrine, house made bread with crispy skin.

Black pudding, crispy potato, maple bacon, caramelised onion.

Gorgozola, ginger and quince cheesecake. Amazing!!

Hazelnut and tarragon polenta, pecorino and wild mushroom duxelle.

If this is anything to go by, we’re in for a treat!
