Back in winter, we took a trip out to Gawler – about a 45 minute drive for us.

It was during school holidays when there were no activities on, and it was early on a Saturday morning. And a bit fresh!

I wanted to visit the Gawler Farmer’s Market, which runs every Saturday from 8am to 12pm in the Gawler Visitor Information Centre car park, just off Lyndoch and Murray Streets.

After a look through, and a couple of purchases, we were cold and hungry so headed to the main street, for somewhere warm and comforting.

We came across The Java Hut and headed inside. It was packed! Checking with our waitress, it’s usually booked out on the weekends so we were lucky to get a table!

javahut_01Sometimes you just want comfort food – especially in winter. And that’s what we got. Two ‘Tookie’ breakfasts: two pancakes served with whipped butter, hash browns, eggs and grilled tomato. Warm, oozing egg yolk and crunchy hash brown. That hit the spot, along with the large coffee!

Our son ordered ‘Mickey Mouse’: a buttermilk pancake served topped with chocolate fudge and ice cream. Unfortunately wasn’t quite enough for a 10-year-old, so he shared some of ours! All our meals were delivered together in a timely manner, by friendly staff. We thought the prices were reasonable too, with the ‘Tookie’ $11.50 and the ‘Mickey Mouse’ $5.50.

The menu covers all standard bases from toast, to eggs and bacon, vegetarian, sweet and savoury pancakes, crepes and waffles. Also, light meals and lunch main course meals.

All the tables were full with people being turned away – so we were pretty happy to try this place out.

When we visit Gawler again, where know to book for breakfast!
