This place would make Willy Wonka very happy!

Today marks the opening of 50sixone, King William Road, Hyde Park.

Co-owned by Simon Flocco and Anthony Canova, the name is taken from the postcode of Hyde Park. Simon says the inspiration for 50sixone has come from New York and a bar with a decadent dessert menu.

Open from early ’til late they serve all day breakfast, lunch and fabulous desserts and inspired shakes!

I love the interior, with red brick walls, wooden beams, black steel and lots of green from tiles, to the cushioned benches along the wall, to the cute hanging plants.

Breakfast (and lunch) includes ‘Granola wake-me-up’; a house-made granola, mixed berry yoghurt panna cotta and a fresh array of seasonal fruit. Or you could try the breakfast sliders: a trio of sliders, one with bacon, eggs, goat cheese and roasted cherry tomatoes, or smoked salmon, baby spinach, Spanish onion and dill hollandaise and finally a poached egg rocket and avocado. Maybe served with some eggplant or onion hand cut fries.

There’s Limoncello cured salmon, pickled fennel, mascarpone, poached eggs, white pepper pumpkin seed biscotti.

And ‘All things red’; baby beetroot, radish, tomato, capsicum, red chilli and a poached egg. In the Panini range, the cheese steak looks delicious with a marinated fillet steak, sautéed capsicum, onions and provolone cheese.

And the CBLT; grilled chicken breast, bacon, lettuce, tomato and aioli. Here served with sweet potato fries.

There are seven shakes to choose from including ‘A little loopy’; a vanilla fruit loop thick shake with a white chocolate rim covered in sprinkles, topped with fresh cream and skewered fruit loops. Perfect for breakfast!!

Or there’s the ‘Oreo glad to see me?’ An Oreo flavoured thick shake topped with an Italian donut and covered with Oreos and cream. A deliciously thick oreo flavoured shake!

And the ‘Meringue a tang’; a wild berry smoothie made with coconut milk, yoghurt and ice cream topped with meringue and strawberries, cream and fairy floss. A refreshing berry smoothie.

‘Pretzels for President’ is a stand out. Salted caramel flavoured thick shake topped with an Italian donut, chocolate dipped pretzels, popcorn and fresh cream. OMG!

And ‘Heaven sent’; double chocolate brownie thick shake stopped with a slice of double chocolate home-made brownie and is served dipping in white chocolate and finished with crushed nuts.

And don’t forget the ice cream! Custom made ice cream pops and one with gold leaf through it, selling for more than $50 a pop!

There are so many great dishes on the menu, I look forward to returning to taste more!
